A 7-Step Podcast Guest Pitch Guide for Getting Booked on Top Industry Podcasts

Podcast Appearances are an excellent low cost strategy for content marketing, brand growth, and thought leadership.  Being a guest on industry podcasts is great for:

  • Generating leads
  • Establishing thought leadership
  • Building social proof and media presence
  • Connecting directly with your target audience
  • Creating content for social media
  • Growing your audience

1) Define Your Value

To get featured on industry podcasts, it’s best to make your value proposition as clear as possible.  You want to provide show producers with:

  • A quick summary of your expertise
  • How you’ll add value to their audience

You want it to be clear - how does having you on the podcast add value for their audience? The best way to clearly demonstrate how you add value as a podcast guest is a Podcast Guest Pitch.

2) Create Your Podcast Guest Pitch

A podcast guest pitch is exactly what it sounds like - a one pager that you use to pitch yourself to a podcast producer. The pitch provides intel on:

  • You as a guest
  • Your expertise summarized into a tagline
  • Proposed episode talking points
  • Social media following to demonstrate your audience size for episode
  • Recent media appearances
  • Your contact info

3) What’s Your Tagline?

To truly summarize your expertise, craft a tagline for yourself. A tagline is a short, punchy description that captures:

  • Who you are
  • Your industry
  • Your expertise

Some tagline examples include:

  • Crypto exec scaling startups from ideation through funding
  • Former rodeo champion turned day trader balances discipline and risk for day trading success
  • Web3 Futurist building the foundation for the fair, community-owned internet
  • DeFi entrepreneur and inventor leading the decentralization of work
  • World champion kickboxer now dominating in the markets

4) Craft Your Talking Points

Another key component of the Podcast Guest Pitch is your proposed talking points -- this is where you can really demonstrate what you know and the value you’ll add to the audience.

To craft your talking points, think about the following idea generators

  • What advice would you offer to a beginner in your industry?
  • What advice do you have for a seasoned industry pro?
  • What hot takes do you have on trending news stories?
  • What controversial opinions do you have on industry “truths”?
  • What are your professional values?
  • If you were to give a 10 minute TED Talk, what would you talk about?

Spend some time thinking about those questions and generating your responses. You should be able to come up with a list of talking points - likely grouped into a couple key themes of expertise.

Some talking point examples are:

  • The decentralization of the internet with Web3
  • Avoiding the pitfalls and mistakes that most companies make with consumer insights
  • Founder strategies for staying at the forefront of product innovation
  • Trading v. Investing - How to determine which is the best strategy
  • Top three tips for toddler tantrums

Craft about 5-10 talking points to include in your Podcast Guest Pitch.

5) Put It All Together - Build Your Podcast Guest Pitch

Pull together all the following assets and get ready to build your pitch -- no design skills necessary!

You’ll need:

  • Headshot
  • Tagline
  • Talking points
  • Social media audience size
  • Any prior podcast or media appearances
  • Brand logo
  • Email
  • Calendar scheduler link (if you have one)

This is the same system we use to get our clients booked on some of the top podcasts - so you know it works!

I recommend working with Canva to design and build your Podcast Guest Pitch -  it’s design software for the non-designer.  You can create one from scratch, use one of Canva’s templates, or use the free minting house Podcast Guest Pitch Template (links to the template on the side-bar).

6) Connect with Podcasts & Get Booked!

Research podcasts that are aligned with your target audience and generate a list of 50 - 100 podcasts to connect with.

Simply start with a google search of your area of expertise + podcasts. For example, you can search for:

  • Top mom podcasts
  • Top finance podcasts
  • Top investing podcasts

You can also search within Spotify or Apple Podcasts to find podcasts related to your area of expertise.

Put together an email outlining the value you bring to the podcast's audience, your tagline, and talking points. Attach your Podcast One Pager, hit send, and wait for the opportunities to roll in!
